I’m hanging out on the windowcleaner forums, specifically in the build threads for work vehicles. This thread combines so many of my favorite things. I really need to build a work rig for myself...
Check out the side shelf below! Hngggggg. *moist*
Window washers are the best. Despite being “competition” we all help each-other out and offer help to the new guys. I miss having my own clea ning business.

I’m thinking like an A-10 Warthog loaded with 30mm capsules that are 1 part vinegar, 1 part drying agent,
3 parts water.

I mean, advertising IS the most important part to grow. An A-10 Warthog would probably be better than all the SEO in the world...

It’s like when every business used to wrap a Hummer H2 in their advertising, but far less obnoxious and probably better fuel economy.

I’m hanging out on the windowcleaner forums
Not a phrase I ever thought I’d read, but I can easily see how one would end up down that rabbit hole. Those setups look great while standing still, but I’m just wondering how much would go flying during evasive maneuvers on the road. That second one seems to have things locked down a little better.

Over here it’s no longer legal for a business to clean windows unless there are two people (one to hold the later), so they don’t use them now. They use telescopic carbon fibre poles.
So any van will do.

My ideal window washing vehicle is my Wrangler, because I can simply drop the windshield to clean the inside instead of fighting the typical narrow gap between the windshield and dashboard.

Yikes. That's pretty rediculous. Mandatory ladder safety course or similar would have been much more reasonable

is it cheating to just buy something?........

I just love that there are multiple forums ... forums plural ... for window cleaning. The world is an amazing place!

It sort of works for them, with the telescopic poles they can have two people doing two houses at a time where I live.
It’s the same with scaffolding. Say you want to work on the exterior of your house and you need scaffolding. You can either get someone in to install the scaffold ing and then sign it off as checked and secure of you can hire and install it yourself, after you had a little training on how to install the scaffolding, you can then rent some, and once built, you have to pay to get someone to come out and check it and sign it off as correct and secure. Use it and then talk it down and return the scaffolding.
It’s just all about reducing injures and establishing liabilities should anything happen. I think it’s the same across central Europe. You will still find crazy practices in parts of Spain, Eastern Europe, etc...
It works for us.

I here you, but with ladders and proper training you can work faster, do better quality work, and still avoid injuries. Not to mention the costs. Full c arbon pole setups for two people will run you over $5 000, with many setups running about that much per person. Then ad d in very pricey consumables, and high maintenance/replacement costs.. . I’d hate to be a kid just starting out and have to go that route.
Wait, for the scaffolding you're talking about companies working at a home, not the homeowner correct? I would think it would be a given that a homeowner is solely responsible for his own safety and being trained as necessary on equipment like that

I don't think I'd trust a bucket truck of that vintage

I want to see some of the responses from the crotchety old guy that’s on every forum. The one where when someone ask a question that’s been asked more than twice before he gives some super condescending reply.
Every forum has at least one.

I think my window cleaner paid just under that for each of the kits.
He started out by himself about 20 years . Now he has over a dozen staff and sometimes there will be four in a van, two teams of one using the telescopic pole while the other does the downstairs windows.
For new people starting out they need to get the kit or get suitable ladders with ground anchors and a second person at the bottom.
If a company came to do work they will either have their own scaffolding or hire so to do the work. It still has to be checked and signed off by one of their crew who is trained for it.
But if you were to do the scaffolding yourself, you need to be signed off in how to use it, then hire it. Build it at your house, then have someone come and sign off your build before you can use it.

Aye, but getting people,to follow said training is gets to be a thing. I repeatedly have to remind folks that, no, you can’t pour shit on the ground or in to the storm drain. No, you can’t do it at home, either. It’s nice that the other company down the street allowed you to, but they shouldn’t have...
